Hi Melinda,

There’s a pattern I see with high performers; especially the ones others rely on.

You’re the one who holds it all together.
You can handle it.
You figure it out.
You make it work.

And because of that… you end up carrying more than you need to.

I was reminded of this in a conversation with a longtime colleague and friend.

She was walking me through a new project she was planning in her business.
Logically, it made complete sense.
It would generate revenue.
It would work.

But as she spoke, something felt off.

Her words said yes.
Her energy said no.

So I asked her a simple question:

“If you let what lights you up be the guide… would this still be the path?”

Without hesitation, she said no.

And then I shared something that immediately shifted everything for her:

Just because you can do something… doesn’t mean you should.
And just because you should… doesn’t mean you have to.

You could feel the relief instantly.
The pressure lifted.
And almost immediately, while we were on the phone, a different idea came to her.
One that felt lighter, clearer, and far more aligned (and simpler to execute with a potential of even higher revenue).

What’s really happening in moments like this is that when you’re “holding it all together,” you’re often saying yes to things because:

  • you’re capable
  • you’re good at them
  • they make sense
  • or you feel like you should

But when there isn’t alignment (of your energy, your body, your mind, your heart) that weight starts to feel like pushing a boulder uphill.

And it doesn’t just drain you.
It limits what you can see.
You miss opportunities right in front of you.

Because when your hands are full…you can’t receive what’s trying to come next.

So here’s a simple place to start:

What are you currently holding together… just because you can?
